bread crumb
This was my first show that taping was openly allowed. After smuggling gear in whatever way we could, it was downright strange to be told at the entry search that there was no need to conceal all of that stuff. Then the off-duty cop told us that the hidden gear made him nervous and he was going to take a closer look. Luckily, all he found was a unique artifact in the shape of a Hoover vacuum cleaner. I told him I had never seen it before in my life. Anyhoo, 12th row, dead center, mics so high I had to stand on the chair to point them at the stage. Best taping job I ever did, except for the difficulty the band presented by playing well past 45 minutes to start the second set. I ended up with a tape flip during Eyes, and slipping the first set tape back in to get Sunshine Daydream and Baby Blue.
Also of note, to have Phil walk out and address the crowd to start the show was a complete mind-blower. There was a rumor circulating at the time that he had lost his voice which explained why he didn't sing anymore. I'll never forget that booming "Citizens of Boise!"

Solid, Workmanlike, Get Yer Money's Worth
After years of touring with the Dead, I grew to enjoy shows of this era, not out of a resigned sense of diminished expectations (compared to '74-'82), but in appreciation of the really firmly-grounded musicianship and tight ensemble play that characterized this period. This seemed
to be a deliberately targeted effect by the boys,
who have obviously explored radically different aspects of their musical persona over the years.
It was something of a relief to attend shows where the objective wasn't necessarily an exhausting whirlwind tour of the Universe, but instead a sharp and precise expression of their
musical powers and technical acumen.

Great set, Good Show
As far as early 80's show go you really can't beat this set list. The playing is good, nothing too daring or spacey. Just a good ol' country rock first set, and some solid monsters 2nd set. Plus you can't bet the soundboard recording! I'm really surprised this show has not been downloaded more.
